The Workers are Few

This devotional is written by Matt Coombs. Matt is one of the leaders at St Mary's and he is married to Pip.

Matthew 9:37–38

37 He said to his disciples, "The harvest is great, but the workers are few. 38 So pray to the Lord who is in charge of the harvest; ask him to send more workers into his fields."

Reflection

I believe that God wants to use you! You are uniquely positioned to reach the people you know with the love of Jesus. Those are the people God has called you to right now. He wants you to be part of what He is doing.

Jesus said, "Pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest" (38). Let's pray, "Lord, let it start with me. I will be a labourer. I don't know what I can do. I don't know what I can offer. But I give it to you."

Watch what God can do! God can do a lot with a little. At the feeding of the 5000 God multiplied one small boys offered lunch and multiplied it and touched thousands (John 6:9–14). He can take what you have and multiply it. He can give you gifts and abilities that you never had before if you just say, "Lord, it's not much, but it's yours. I give it to you. Here I am Lord, send me."

The Life Course starts soon, who can begin praying for to invite? Are there people who live in your building? Colleagues who don't yet know you're a Christian. The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Pray for yourself; for courage, conviction and compassion. Pray for those that you are uniquely positioned to reach.
