Psalm 8

For the director of music. According to gittith.
A psalm of David. 1 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory in the heavens. 2 Through the praise of children and infants you have established a stronghold against your enemies, to silence the foe and the avenger. 3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, 4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?[c]

5 You have made them[d] a little lower than the angels[e] and crowned them[f] with glory and honour. 6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their[g] feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!

Prayer

Lord, we honour and we glorify your name. We thank you that you are above it all. The whole earth testifies and shouts out your majesty. There is no one like you, you are most wonderful and your glory is beyond our  comprehension. How majestic is your name in all the earth.

Lord may we be like little children that are quick to praise you, just like the ones who recognised the coming of the king as you rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. May we be quick to recognise you and to live out your praise, without hesitation or reserve. May we have hearts like little children that trust you, and are close to you, and are enamoured by you, that we would bypass our opinions and our cynicism, and instead look to you with eyes of wonder, and playfulness, and joy, and hope, and innocence and expectation. May the enemy be silenced by our praise. How majestic is your name in all the earth.

Lord you set the moon in place and you call each star by name, yet you know each of us so intimately. You know everything that concerns us, and you care for us. Thank you for your attention and for your affection. How majestic is your name in all the earth.

Thank you Jesus, who took on human form, and died for us, so that we could have life and freedom. Lord thank you for the authority that you have given us through Christ. We pray that we would be good stewards of the works of your hands, that we would take care of the earth and everything in it. Lord help us to see as you see,  and to care as you care. How majestic is your name in all the earth.

We glorify you Jesus. You are the beginning and the end, the Alpha and the Omega, There is none like you, Lord. Lord in you we live and move and have our being, Everything is held together by You, Jesus. You are majestic, you are glorious, and we rest in the knowledge that You are over it all. How majestic is your name in all the earth.  Amen.
